Choosing a theme and skin background
The theme (frame and colors) and the skin background shape how your summoner card comes across. The same details can look tryhard or cute and relaxed depending on the combination. Here is how to choose a theme and match a background to it.
Start with how you want to come across
- Climbing ranked together: calm themes close to the LoL universe, such as Hextech, Noxus and Freljord
- Relaxed and fun: bright themes like Dreamy Pink and Blue, Ryousan-kei and Star Guardian
- Showing your personality: bold designs like Jirai-kei, Yami-kawaii, Gothic Lolita, Y2K and Gaming
- Seasonal posts: limited themes such as Halloween, Christmas and New Year
You can compare every theme on the templates page.
Match the skin to the theme colors
A skin with colors close to the theme makes the whole card feel unified.
- Gold and navy Hextech: skins with lots of blue or gold
- Red and black Noxus: darker skins with strong reds
- Pink themes (Dreamy, Ryousan-kei, Jirai-kei): pink or pastel skins
- Japanese: skins with kimono or cherry blossom motifs
If you are unsure, use your favorite skin for your favorite champion. It is a natural conversation starter.
Keeping the text readable
A busy skin can make your name and comment hard to read. You can adjust the background’s position, zoom and darkness, so keep these in mind:
- Move the character’s face to the right: your name and roles sit on the left, so keeping the focus of the art on the right avoids overlap.
- Turn up “Darken background”: it tones the art down so the text stands out.
- Check on a phone: images show up small in the X timeline. Before saving, make sure your name and rank are readable at phone size.
Balancing the icon
Your icon can be an in-game summoner icon or a crop from any skin image. Using the same skin as the background looks unified; a different skin feels livelier. Neither is wrong, so try combinations while watching the preview.
Turn it into a banner
Your finished card can also become a promo banner for stream overlays and Twitch panels. The theme colors carry over, so you can pick a theme that matches your stream’s look.
